The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) recently designated the Biomedical Informatics and Data Science (BIDS) program in the Division of General Internal Medicine as a PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centre for Classifications, Terminologies and Standards, under WHO’s reference number USA-467. Dr. Christopher Chute will act as Director of the Centre, related to his previous work chairing the International Classification of Disease (ICD-11) revision process from 2006-2016, and his current role as co-chair of the WHO Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee for Clinical Classification, a role he has held since 2016.
According to Dr. Chute, “The clinical classification and terminology space forms a key element around organizing and curating electronic health record data to support analytic inferencing and data science for health conditions, risks, and outcomes.” For more information about these Collaborating Centres, visit the WHO website.
