Qingrui Wang, Robert Barrett, and Maria Sanchez-Jauregui are co-authors along with Dr. Hadi Kharrazi of a study entitled Associations of Race, Area-level Income, and Air Quality on Hospitalization Risk in Pediatric Asthma Patients: A Retrospective Observational Cohort Study, which appeared in the March 14, 2026 issue of the Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities. This work examines how social, environmental, and clinical factors interact and differ in their influence on hospital readmissions. Major findings show that younger patients, Black patients, those with previous inpatient admission, and patients living in areas with higher air pollution or lower incomes face greater risk of follow-up inpatient admission within a year. The results underscore the need for improved interventions targeted at these vulnerable populations. This publication is the outcome of the students’ work in their Health Informatics Research Methods class.
