BIDS PhD student Shijia Zhang’s paper, “ProtoBERT-LoRA: Parameter-Efficient Prototypical Finetuning for Immunotherapy Study Identification,” was recognized with the Distinguished Paper Award at the recent American Medical Informatics Association 2025 Annual Symposium. According to Shijia, one of the most exciting aspects of this work is “demonstrating that small and efficient encoding models, when combined with prototypical finetuning, can achieve strong performance even under low-resource label conditions, making them practical for clinical applications where annotated data is limited.” Shijia’s co-authors include: Xiyu Ding, MS, Kai Ding, PhD, Jacob Zhang, PhD, Kevin Galinsky, PhD, Mengrui Wang, MS, Ryan P. Mayers, MS, and Shijia’s PhD mentors, Drs. Zheyu Wang and Hadi Kharazzi. We are thrilled that Shijia and his colleagues’ work was featured in this way.
